I acquired this beautiful painting from through Halcyon Gallery in 2007. I believe it is one of his better paintings and unfortunately the website doesnt do it justice.....

Re: Myriam in the studio

I thought I should say a word or two about this model for those who never met her. Myriam Rivera [sometimes called Romig] arrived in Devon in the mid '70's and saw the mural. She waited outside the studio and introduced herself to Robert who was very intrigued. She was working in Kingsbridge and asked him to come over to see her which he [very unusually] agreed to do. He didn't drive and I took him over to Kingsbridge & dropped him off there. I believe Myriam's sister, Magdalena was at the hotel too. Later, both moved into Robert's house for a short time before returning to Colombia.

Myriam was to return several times, most recently some weeks before Robert died so that she was in Devon at the time of his death. She then went back home to Bogota where she still lives. I'm in regular contact with her; she rang me a few weeks ago.

She was a very good model from Robert's perspective; she was able to remain motionless for hours. She was a very striking woman in her appearance and has a personality to match. She was outspoken [and remains so] and direct whilst also being courteous and polite. She was also very cosmopolitan and he found her wde range of experiences interesting. In my opinion, her relationship with Robert impacted on several of the early projects for example Jealousy, Suicide.
