Michael Reilly was a surgeon working in Plymouth. He was approached by Mr Lenkiewicz who said he wanted to paint his portrait. Lenkiewicz gave the result
to Mr Reilly to keep. It is not known why Lenkiewicz chose him except that Michel Reilly was well known in Plymouth, he was a Consultant and on the council of the Royal College of Surgeons. He was asked to wear his Fellowship robes for the picture.
