This is Project 1, Vagrancy: Exhibition list No. 33, Gentleman in Pierrot costume, £250. It is seen on Philip Stokes' figs of the opening night of the Vagrancy Exhibition, March 1973 (see A portrait of Robert Lenkiewicz, White Lane Press 2005, fig. 043). Later, the painting used to hang in the Philosophy Library at St Saviour's Church in Plymouth.
The work is based on a painting by Antoine Watteau (1684-1721) titled Pierrot (also known as Gilles), c. 1718-19, in Musée du Louvre, Paris.
