Portrait Of A Man In A Green Jacket |
Re: Portrait Of A Man In A Green Jacket
I , from 1970 , and an ignominious discharge from the Royal Navy ( a gratefully welcomed and hard fought for event ) , was part of that gang in Plymouth of which Robert can be said to be 'one' of its epicentres . I attended the Sufi Thinking classes with him . Life Study posed for his classes at the GPO , Indeed would have been in daily contact with him and his circle of friends ... If it still exists , I am the man ( tall , frizzy black hair & moustaches 23 yrs old ) at the left of a mural Robert painted in and for The Salvation Army at the very bottom end of Union Street , nigh opposite the old Plymouth Brewery . And indeed in approximately 5 other oils & several sketches . my military past , history and somewhat dark tales from the post 2nd world war , post colonial Far East were gryst to Robert's mill , Indeed my position as 'the' ganja dealer successive encumbents of the chief of Plymouth's drug squad could not catch amused the good man greatly , all this accompnied , to Rob's ever present Hasidic occasion music , scratching away on a cheap recordplayer . Good and vivid memories
The guy in this painting's was known only as 'Paddy the Irishman' , ( i did press many times for a fuller eponym but was alwaystold , with a wild laugh , to FO ) a most affable , funny and kindly guy known to us all , and ,; in the days of a sizeable free beer ration , worked as a delivery man for PB .......
Does the Sally Ann mural still exist , or did the developer have his way with it ? .
yours , with thanks for such a lovely website ,
Meirion Wyn 'Taff' Jones.............
